Mind-Body Balance

The mind-body connection is no secret and Working Well means taking time to check your ‘balance’ of thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Inside your brain, a ‘top-down’ cognitive approach to working well is generally understood: the quality of your thoughts affect the quality of your feelings, which in turn drives what you do/don’t do.

What is often overlooked however, is the brain’s ‘bottom-up’ approach to working well: the adjustment of your physiology/neurology affects the resilience of your feelings, which in turn drives clarity of thinking.

In this short video clip I talk about this mind-body connection. Here, as I guide you through a simple physiological re-balance practice, is one simple skill that can re-set your working day.

What is Bullying?

unrealised potential

I work with bullies and bullied.

Take a recent example of a teenager who was being publically humiliated on social media after posting a live singing performance at a local talent competition.

The mum removed said post from social media citing ‘thumbs down and online judgements/jibes’ as evidence of bullying.

What happens inside your mind when you hear the word ‘bullied’. What assumptions do you make and what is your default emotional reaction?

I think the word ‘bully’ is a powerful metaphor Read more…

Percy Manages Metaphor

Percy explained that he had been getting angry with people at work.

As manager of a team, he needed his people to follow instruction and deliver results. The trigger to his getting angry was people not doing what he had asked of them which led to increasing frustration, which then led to anger. Underpinning his anger was something of high value to him – feeling understood.

Marketing Unconsciously

Have you ever been shopping and found your eyes fixating on bargain signs? Those uniformly simple and brightly coloured images that trick us into thinking we can save money. Over time, how many things have you bought on impulse?

Not everyone succumbs to that automated behavioural response of course, but if you owned a retail store you’d be very keen to understand consumer behaviours wouldn’t you?

Is the playground any different to the workplace?

NLP Coaching For Resilience – with Mia who has been experiencing a situation with a girl we will call ‘B’ who clearly doesn’t like Mia.

B has been spreading unkind and untrue rumours amongst Mia’s friends, saying that Mia has been bitching about each of them behind their backs. B is trying to divide the friendship group and Mia feels her only option is to convince each friend that the rumours are not true. She is exhausted and worried that she will lose her friends.

The situation has brought back memories of a bullying experience we had worked through 12 months earlier (different environment, different girl). She is feeling stuck and un-resourceful.

What does a Ferrari engine look like? Sound like? Feel like? Just imagine.

Does your empty-engine Ferrari have room to build a ferocious energy convertor?

Thought so.
